The desire for marriage

Tuesday, April 23, 2013

As we grow from infancy into adulthood the hormones within our bodies generate in us a desire to have an opposite sex around us.

These hormones cause the development of secondary sexual characteristics.

In females these characteristics include;-

  1.        Development of hips
  2.       Development of mammary glands (breasts)
  3.        Development of a sharp voice
  4.        Growth of pubic hair and under the armpits.
  5.        Enlargement of the sexual organs
In the males the following changes occur;-
  1.        Development of muscles
  2.        Enlargement of the sexual organ
  3.       Development of hair around the pubis, face, chest, and under armpits.
  4.        Development of a heavy voice.

In schools it is always a tag of war to separate those children that have gotten attracted to each other and are trying to pair up. They promise great things to each other, so the one who warns them against their actions looks to be an enemy.

Even in homes it is always a hard time for the parents when children get to adolescent age.

The children thus are looking for that opportunity, when they will have freedom to lead their way.

There is in many cases a lot of messing up when these children get to tertiary institutions. As a result of the freedom granted them in those schools, they try to practice what they have missed under the restrictions of parents and teachers and other authorities. Are you part of them?  Have you seen any of them? Are the results the best?
Getting married
Our cultures vary, and each has its own way. However, to them all there is bride price to be paid before you take someone’s to you house. This is the formal way. Did you pay bride price or did someone pay bride price to take you?

The lady introduces her husband to the parents and relatives. The parents bless their children into marriage and this man is always respected.

The bride prices vary from place to place.
They may include but not limited to;-
  1.   Animals like cows, goats, chicken
  2. Clothes to parents, brothers, aunties, uncles
  3. Consumable items like sugar, salt, cooking oil, paraffin, bread.
  4. Real meat (beef) more so the thigh.
  5.  House hold items like cupboards, dining tables and chairs, sofa set chairs.

On introductory functions the bride is always very happy because she has gotten a man to take her. Music, dancing, and eating fill up the occasions.

Introductions are usually followed with weddings normally conducted by religious leaders in churches or mosques.

Those that are marrying are meant to have orientation lessons for what they are going onto. The ladies are usually taught by their aunties and mothers. The gents use their uncles and fathers.

Besides this, the religious leaders are also meant to have sessions of discussions with those intending to marry, to teach them some lessons on marriage.

However, many marriages do not start that way. From my observations many people have started in the following ways;-
  1.  A girl gets pregnant from school
  2.    A boy picks a girl from a dance hall
  3.    People meet at functions and they go together
  4.  People meeting at work places and start from there.
Dr. John Kakembo, one day while talking about marriage said that some people get married by choice and others just slide into it.
