The impact
of poverty on families
Have you ever experienced the fangs of poverty getting to
your nerves? It may look to be a funny question to some people but poverty is
very dangerous. Poverty has denied us
the goodies of life.
Our friends have run away from us because we have nothing to
offer. In the news papers, books, televisions and other media, we have read and
seen the impact of poverty on societies. However, before a society is announced
to be a poor one, it is the homes that come first.
The feeling of living a life of a financial failure hurts
and lessens our dignity. It is unbearable whenever we feel financially
handicapped. We feel miserably tormented
in a situation not easy to cope with the dynamics of whatever society we live
in.
To have joy and happiness in life you need financial means. With money we can provide our educational needs, good shelter, better health, food, clothes to our children, spouses and those under our care.
To have joy and happiness in life you need financial means. With money we can provide our educational needs, good shelter, better health, food, clothes to our children, spouses and those under our care.
In poverty, misery is unquestionable, it is always very
evident, it can be heard from our talks, seen from the face, and from our
general outlook. Poverty cannot be hidden from those seeing you. If you have
the means you are able to offer and when you don’t you can’t.
It is not cheap to find money; it is like finding gold the
precious mineral. You have to mine, process it in a furnace and test it for
purity. It is not a simple process, yet we can overcome.
Each of us needs to understand our financial status and the
process we can follow to see ourselves out of poverty. It is known that no one can escape poverty by merely talking about it.
There must be action. In this
journey we may make several mistakes but in them we learn and later become
perfect.
Who has ever seen success without any obstacles? The answer is that no one! We should
think positively, take action and then realize the success.
All over the world poverty is a problem. Thus, governments, non-government
organizations, families and all of us must address this problem. Practical
solutions are needed to eradicate poverty.
Mr. Sebunya Livingstone an experienced man in the field of
finance in one of his speeches to youths put it that:-
- · Talking about poverty does not take it away,
- · Wishing, hoping and lamenting will not chase poverty,
- · Poverty will never get better with time, and
- · It can only go away by doing something (taking action).
Life rewards action,
positive action causes change, and brings new hope.
There are rules that are practical that can lead you to
success. They may not be limited to these but the ones listed here have been
proven to work. They can work for you. They are as follows:-
- Focusing on things that work. If you can’t get to your goals where you are, abscond and find your way.
- Embracing a new mentality (stick not on old fashion). Certain ideas no longer hold
- Developing a creative imagination. (Everything you see has two creations; first in the mind and then the actual). As he thinks, so he is (proverbs 4:23). Make your pictorial ideas in the mind practical.
- Having a flexible mind. A flexible mind finds new solutions to new problems.
- Sharing your blessings (contributing to charity) – those you help pray for you and protect your wealth.
- Avoiding stealing. It is not socially acceptable, not ethical, it damages your reputation. Live responsibly by cherishing virtues like integrity, honesty, faithfulness and humility, then your wealth will survive.
- Giving back to God. Acknowledge the giver of all your blessings.
Our educational needs, good shelter, better health, food and
clothes to our children, spouses and those under our care can be met if we
engage into work.
I now plead to
husbands and wives in homes not to separate from each other because of poverty.
I feel there is a solution to the poverty they are going through. Donations can
relieve our pain but not permanently. Men and women must sit down to devise
means to their problems. No situation is permanent unless we ignore to take
appropriate action.
Working will fulfill our desires. Success is gradual; it
comes slowly, but steadily to those who follow the right procedure.
Fathers don’t flee your homes; mothers don’t live your
children. Engage in active work you will see the results. When you are sick,
you go to a doctor; when you are hungry, you go for food; when you are poor you
have to go for work.
Young men and ladies reading this message, your parents’
riches belong to them. They may provide you a starting point, but you must work
to ensure continuity.
Note: there is
someone who has worked tirelessly behind every successful venture you have seen!
